Our Corporate History
MMM Interiors was established in 1989, initially trading as M-Design Tiles and Bathrooms, from a small boutique showroom in Canberra, specialising in bathroom design and designer bathware and tiles. In those early days the business concentrated on providing both domestic and commercial Interior Design services and retailing tiles and bathware that previously were available only in Sydney or Melbourne.
Mimmi Freebody, director of M-Design, was determined to bring more focus to the Interior Design aspect of the business however - particularly bathrooms and kitchens. Back in the late eighties when M-Design commenced operations, builders customarily determined final interior finishes for their clients homes. Back then, builders tended to follow a fairly basic set of rules when selecting fittings and fixtures ... decisions that suited the builders rather than the clients and which placed little importance on style or functionality. Working closely with clients, M-Design was determined to change this "natural order" by creating a new awareness, amongst clients, of the benefits provided by good interior design as an essential component of the initial building design and construction process rather than just as "an afterthought" of construction.
Over the decades since then M-Design has grown and prospered and, along the way, they have changed the industry paradigm and brought Interior Design back to the position it should always have occupied - at centre stage of the building design process. The amazing bathrooms, master bedroom suites and kitchens that flow into alfresco indoor and outdoor areas that we regard as "the norm" today are a result of this challenge to the established "natural order".
In addition to working closely with clients and suppliers of innovative new products, Mimmi Freebody is closely involved with all the relevant industry associations such as the Housing Industry Association and the Master Builders Association. Mimmi was an inaugural member of the National Kitchen and Bathroom Association committee. The NBKA's main role was to bring about awareness of the importance of bathrooms and kitchens in homes and to drive the requirement for setting standards for good design and detailed design documentation.
Mimmi Freebody and MMM Interiors have been setting the bar for innovative design in bathrooms and kitchens for decades but more recently they have expanded their area of expertise to include full interior design, furniture and office design and even complete building design. To provide a comprehensive service to clients MMM Interiors now also provide total project management to ensure that the high standards and finishes required by good design are implemented exactly as specified. This dedication to excellence has not gone unnoticed as both Mimmi and MMM Interiors have won numerous awards, at both a local and national level.
Our Design Philosophy
Quality in design and construction is too important to be left to chance. Good quality starts with good design, followed by detailed documentation and good site implementation plans. Our designs are always innovative and functional - they are designed to meet client requirements, affordability and the asthetics of the environment.
